Create RFI Official Response
This tutorial demonstrates how to create an official response for an RFI in a Forma project. The steps include verifying the user’s permissions, creating an official response, and optionally adding attachments. You can only create an official response for an RFI that is in open status and that has not yet received an official response. You must be assigned to the RFI or included in its list of permitted reviewers.
Before You Begin
- Register an app
- Acquire a 3-legged OAuth token with
data:writeaccount:readscopes. - Verify that you have access to the relevant hub and Forma project.
- Find the relevant project ID for the project you want to create an RFI in by following the Retrieve a Hub ID and Project ID tutorial. In this example, assume the hub ID is
g5s4e3b5-vbta-6b02-d23a-5d55f36ba876, the project ID isce8edd30-ef28-467c-8d99-7d7051097ee0and the RFI ID isa1d12f69-3c02-4bba-936d-cccd73f001ee.
Step 1: Find the RFI ID
To post an official response, you need the RFI ID. Call POST rfis:search using the project ID (ce8edd30-ef28-467c-8d99-7d7051097ee0) to search for RFIs in the project.
Request
Response
Take note of the RFI ID (a1d12f69-3c02-4bba-936d-cccd73f001ee). You will use this ID in the next step.
Step 2: Verify Permissions and RFI Status
To confirm the user can create an official response, call GET rfis/:rfiId using the project ID and RFI ID.
Only users with Manager permissions can create an official response, and only if:
> - The RFI status is answered.
> - The RFI does not yet have an official response.
Request
Response
Verify the following:
> - The RFI status is answered.
> - The current user is listed under managerId or permitted reviewers.
> - The officialResponse field is not yet populated.
Step 3: (Optional) Upload Attachments
To include attachments in your official response, first upload the file to Autodesk’s Object Storage Service (OSS). For detailed steps, see the Upload Attachments tutorial.
After uploading, note the following values from the response:
> - objectId – The unique identifier for the uploaded file.
> - objectKey – The file name used in storage.
These values will be required when adding attachments to your RFI official response.
Step 4: Create the Official Response
To create the official response, call PATCH rfis/:rfiId using the project ID (ce8edd30-ef28-467c-8d99-7d7051097ee0), and the RFI ID (rfiId) (a1d12f69-3c02-4bba-936d-cccd73f001ee).
Set the following fields:
> - status to closed
> - officialResponse to your response text
> - officialResponseStatus to answered
> - Optionally, include attachments
Request
Response
Congratulations! You’ve successfully created an official response for the RFI.
